How Much Does It Cost to Stay in Medewi?

One of the appealing things about Medewi is that you don’t need a huge budget to stay close to the beach, eat well and enjoy one of Bali’s quieter surf destinations.

But how much does it cost to stay in Medewi?

Budget accommodation in Medewi

You don’t have to spend much to stay in Medewi.

There are simple guesthouses and surf stays where the emphasis is on having somewhere comfortable to sleep rather than providing a full resort experience.

We stayed at THE NYAMO, which is a good example of this sort of accommodation. It’s simple and inexpensive, but we found it a great base for exploring Medewi, particularly if you’re more interested in being out surfing, eating and exploring than spending the day beside a hotel pool.

Three nights at THE NYAMO: £27

What about a nicer place to stay?

Move up the price range and you’ll find accommodation with more space, swimming pools, gardens, better views and easier access to the beach.

One example is WIDE SANDS, where we stopped for a drink and later had dinner. We liked the relaxed beachfront setting and the fact that we were able to use the pool and sun loungers during our visit.

It’s the sort of place we’d consider if we wanted something more comfortable than a basic surf stay.

Three nights at WIDE SANDS: £133

So, what should you budget for three nights?

For two people, we’d suggest thinking about Medewi accommodation in four broad categories:

Budget: around £25-50 for three nights

Simple accommodation, guesthouses and surf stays.

Mid-range: around £50-100 for three nights

More comfortable rooms, pools, gardens and additional facilities.

Beachfront: around £100-£200 for three nights

More space, better facilities and accommodation where the setting is part of the experience.

Luxury: from £200+ per night

Something special. A boutique resort with world class service.

The great thing about Medewi is that you don’t necessarily need to spend a lot to be in a beautiful location. But if you’re looking for serious luxury, you’ll find that too.

How much does a whole trip to Medewi cost?

Accommodation is only one part of the budget.

Food and drinks can also be very reasonable, particularly if you eat at local warungs, cafés and smaller restaurants.

A typical day might include:

  • Breakfast and coffee.
  • Lunch at a local warung
    • Try Nal’s Kitchen – local dishes are around 50,000IDR (less than £2) or there are western options too.
  • An afternoon coffee or drink
    • 30000 IDR for a beer from a local supermarket enjoyed on the beach, or a tad more to enjoy in a beach bar
  • Dinner
    • Bamboo Beach Bar – you’ll get a cracking local Nasi Goreng 30000 IDR. Add a beer and you’re evenings coming in at around £5
  • Scooter hire
    • around 100,000IDR should have you scooting around for the day. Just make sure you have the right permissions to drive
  • Surfing or a surf lesson
    • At the Nyamo, our surfing lessons cost 300,000IDR for 2 hours (less than £13 per lesson)

We’ll be adding more real-world prices to this guide as we explore more of Medewi, so that you can get a better idea of what a full day in Medewi actually costs.

But, based on the day above, you’re looking at around 600,000IDR or £25 for a full days eating, drinking and a couple of hours of surf lessons, too. With one of the more affordable accommodation options, you could easily come in at less than £35 per day.

Or, you could go all out, stay at the Kelapa Resort and Spa for £200+ per night, and enjoy beachfront drinks at Bombora for £15 each. (I hope one day we can afford to do this…!)

Is Medewi expensive?

Compared with some of Bali’s better-known beach destinations, Medewi can be a relatively affordable place to stay.

It’s also a very different experience.

Medewi isn’t Seminyak or Canggu. There are fewer large resorts, less nightlife and considerably less development. For many visitors, that’s exactly the attraction.

If you’re coming for the surfing, beaches, countryside and slower pace of life, you can have a very enjoyable stay without spending a fortune.
