How long should you stay in Medewi? For most visitors, two or three nights is a good starting point, but if you’re coming to surf or want to use Medewi as a base for exploring west Bali, it’s easy to stay longer.
Medewi is a fairly small place, and that’s part of its appeal. You don’t need a packed itinerary to enjoy it. A few days gives you time to settle in, get to the beach, have a surf, eat well and explore some of the surrounding area.
Is two nights enough in Medewi?
Two nights can work well if Medewi is one stop on a longer Bali trip.
You could arrive from southern Bali, spend an afternoon getting settled, have a full day in Medewi and then continue your journey the following morning.
It’s enough time to get a feel for the place, although if you’re hoping to surf, I’d be tempted to stay a little longer. Having an extra day gives you more flexibility if the conditions aren’t right on the day you planned to surf.
Three nights in Medewi
Three nights is probably a good option for a first visit.
It gives you a couple of full days without making the trip feel rushed. You can spend some time at the beach, try surfing, explore by scooter, eat at a few different places and still have time to do very little.
And doing very little is actually quite a good fit for Medewi.
You could easily spend a morning watching the surfers at Medewi Point, have lunch by the beach and then head out exploring in the afternoon.
Staying longer in Medewi
If you’re coming specifically to surf, staying four nights or more makes sense.
Having several days gives you more opportunities to surf around the tides and conditions rather than trying to fit everything into one particular day. It’s also a good way to experience Medewi at a slower pace.
For anyone working remotely or looking for somewhere quieter for part of a longer Bali trip, Medewi can also work well as a longer stay.
How long did we stay?
We initially booked 4 nights, but ended up staying in Medewi for 6 nights and really enjoyed having the time to settle into the area rather than just passing through.
We stayed at The Nyamo Surfschool & Stay, which wasn’t fancy, but we really liked it and thought it was great value. It was a good base for getting down to the beach, and we’d arranged our surf lessons before we arrived.
I’d never surfed before, so having a few days around the beach and the surf made the whole experience much less intimidating.
Can Medewi be part of a longer Bali itinerary?
Definitely.
Medewi works particularly well as a stop between southern Bali and west Bali. You don’t need to make it your whole holiday.
You could spend a few nights in Medewi before continuing towards West Bali National Park and Gilimanuk, or use it as a quieter break after time in busier parts of Bali.
It’s also close enough to places such as Balian and Pulukan to explore further along the coast by scooter.
My recommendation
If you’re visiting Medewi for the first time, I’d allow three nights if you can.
Two nights is enough to get a taste of the area, while three or four gives you more freedom to surf, explore and simply enjoy the slower pace.
If surfing is the main reason for your trip, I’d stay longer if your itinerary allows it. The extra flexibility can make a big difference when you’re relying on the right conditions.
